Alachua County Public School students continue to earn recognition for their strong performance on rigorous Advanced Placement (AP) exams.
A total of 961 students have earned at least one recognition from the College Board this year for their high performance on AP exams. Of those students, 92 have earned multiple recognitions. The College Board administers the Advanced Placement program.
Among the recognized students were 943 students who were named either AP Scholars, AP Scholars with Honors or AP Scholars with Distinction for the 2024-25 school year. Of those students, 403 earned the highest award of AP Scholar with Distinction, which meant they received an average score of at least 3.5 on all their AP exams and passed (score of 3 or higher) at least five total exams. The district’s 139 AP Scholars with Honors received an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP exams they took and scores of 3 or higher on four of those exams. The 410 local students named AP Scholars earned a score of 3 or higher on three AP exams.
All of the district’s high schools had at least one AP Scholar this year. Students at six of the district’s seven high schools also earned AP Scholar with Honors and AP Scholar with Distinction awards.
The College Board, which administers the Advanced Placement Program nationwide, has also recognized 61 ACPS students who earned the AP Capstone Diploma and 39 who received the AP Seminar and Research Certificate this year.
To earn the AP Capstone Diploma, students had to earn scores of 3 or higher in AP Seminar, AP Research and four additional AP exams. A Certificate requires that students earn scores of three or higher on both the Seminar and Research exams.
District officials say the number of students who were recognized this year for their performance on AP exams is particularly noteworthy so many of the district’s top performing students are taking the equally- rigorous Cambridge and International Baccalaureate exams in place of AP exams. ACPS students also regularly earn national recognition for their success with those exams.
“Alachua County Public School students continue to prove that they are among the top performers in the nation,” said Superintendent Dr. Kamela Patton. “Their success is a tribute to high-quality education offered in this district and their own hard work and commitment to their studies.”
