February 2 - 6 is National School Counseling Week.
School counselors are key leaders in promoting student achievement, well-being, and future readiness. Their work extends far beyond scheduling and includes:
- Supporting students’ academic growth through goal setting, progress monitoring, and problem-solving
- Providing social-emotional support that helps remove barriers to learning
- Guiding students in college and career planning, ensuring they are prepared for life beyond graduation
- Collaborating with teachers, families, and administrators to build systems of support for all students
- Responding to student needs in times of crisis and helping create safe, supportive school environments
Their efforts truly amplify the success of our students by ensuring every child has access to the tools, resources, and encouragement needed to thrive.
Thank you Ms. Rivers!

This year's theme is "Read, White and Blue - Celebrating 250 Chapters of America". There will be themed dress-up days and lots of American History to celebrate.

Over the course of the program, girls will develop and improve competence, feel confidence in who they are, develop strength of character, respond to others with care and compassion, create positive connections with peers and adults, and make a meaningful contribution to community and society.

Start With Hello Week will be observed September 15th-19th.
Start with Hello Week is a nationwide event from the Sandy Hook Promise organization which takes place every September. This call to action celebrates the amazing work of teachers, students, and community members that are helping to build a socially inclusive working and learning environment for all students.
Start With Hello Week aims to help students:
Recognize loneliness and social isolation in their peers
Make a difference for students who need connection
Create an empathic and inclusive community
Why Does It Matter?
Research shows that feeling socially isolated negatively affects mental health, physical health and cognitive function in students, adults and the elderly.
Strong social connections are one of several protective factors that can contribute to an individual's overall wellness.
See the calendar of school-wide events and dress up days planned for our students.

In accordance with Florida Statute § 1006.07(2)(f), which authorizes school boards to regulate student use of wireless communication devices to promote a safe and effective learning environment:
A new law passed by the Florida Legislature (HB 1105) significantly limits when students may use cell phones or other personal wireless communication devices, such as smartwatches, earbuds, headphones, and tablets.
At all elementary and middle schools and at High Springs Community School, Oak View Middle School, Hawthorne Middle/High School, such personal devices must remain powered off and stored out of sight from arrival on campus to departure from the campus.
At high schools (except for Hawthorne and A. Quinn Jones, which follow the elementary/middle guidelines) and at Sidney Lanier, devices must remain powered off and stored out of sight during instructional time. High school teachers may grant permission for students to use wireless communication devices during class for instructional purposes only.
Middle and high school students may use their devices during extracurricular activities.
Students have access to district-approved instructional technology throughout the school day.
Families who need to reach their child due to an emergency or other safety concern should contact their school's front office directly.
More specific details about the district's guidelines for wireless for communication devices are available in the district's Codes of Student Conduct (elementary and secondary), which are linked to this page. Please check the Table of Contents for Wireless Communications/Technology Use.
