K-5th Families,

During the week of September 15th through September 19th, High Springs Community School will do our part in helping students recognize warning signs of loneliness and spread awareness of acceptance and inclusion by participating in Start With Hello Week.

Last year, over 12,000 schools from across the United States participated in Start With Hello Call To Action week to highlight and spread the message of the power of Start With Hello’s three simple steps:

1. See Someone Alone

2. Reach Out and Help

3. Start With Hello

We encourage you to talk to your child about the Start With Hello program and ask them to share what tthey have learned. For more information about Sandy Hook Promise programs, please visit: https://www.sandyhookpromise.org/.

Thank you for supporting the Start With Hello Week!

School health screenings are non-invasive assessments of students’ growth and development in areas that could affect their academic performance. These are provided to students each year in all Florida school districts, as mandated by Florida Statute 381.0056. School health screenings are beneficial for students in that they may uncover deficiencies in areas of vision, hearing, dental care, and even spinal curvature as students grow (scoliosis). Detailed information about each specific screening can be found on the district website, www.alachuaschools.net/health services. Our school will screen:

Kindergarten - Hearing and Vision (*may also use results from the physical exam submitted at enrollment)

1st Grade - Hearing, Vision, Height and Weight

3rd Grade - Vision, Height and Weight, Dental

6th Grade - Hearing, Vision, Height and Weight, Scoliosis

Our school's Elementary health screenings will be performed on Sept. 18th. Our 3rd graders will have their Dental screening on Sept 18th as well. Sixth grade screenings will be held on Sept. 30th. Parents may wish to opt their student(s) out of the health screenings by submitting written notification to the school using the Annual Health Screening Opt-Out Form, also provided on the link above.

For more information, you may also contact Nurse Serina at 386-454-1958.
