We are very excited to welcome the Class of 2030 to Newberry High School! We would like to invite you to our New Student Orientation and provide you with important information regarding the start of school:
· Our “New Student Orientation” will be on Thursday, August 6, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. in the NHS Auditorium. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet some of our teachers, take a brief tour of our campus, and receive your tentative schedules. Additionally, our clubs, organizations, and sports teams will have information tables set up to answer any questions you may have.
· Every student at NHS is assigned a laptop allowing access to digital textbooks and transitioning between classwork, testing, and homework. All students/families who attend our New Student Orientation will be issued their laptop in preparation of the school year (even if they already have a laptop or computer at home) and they will keep this assigned laptop for their entire academic career at Newberry High School. Any student who does not attend the New Student Orientation will be issued their laptop during the first week of school.
· Some NHS students are required to complete summer coursework in their English course. Please visit the News section of our school website for more information: (https://www.alachuaschools.net/o/newberry-high).
· Students will begin the 2025-26 school year on Monday, August 10th, with the ringing of our First Bell at 8:30 am and we are already looking forward to seeing all those smiling faces! On the 1st day of school, students will locate their name on the grade sheets posted in the NHS Commons Area to find their 1st period teacher. That teacher will have their schedules for the 2026-27 school year. IMPORTANT: There may be changes to schedules distributed during the New Student Orientation or posted in Skyward, so please make sure to follow these instructions.
· Final course placements are ultimately made to satisfy requirements for graduation and/or class size and availability. Please note, as per our school’s policy, schedule changes will be limited to scheduling errors or conflicts, or changes which may be necessary to satisfy graduation requirements or meet scholarship criteria.
· Students who need bus transportation must complete the online transportation registration form using this link: ACPS Transportation Request 2026-2027 School Year . The deadline to submit the completed form is Friday (July 26th) to ensure your student has transportation on the first day of school. Forms submitted after July 26th will still be accepted BUT may cause delays in transportation being available. If you have any questions regarding transportation, please contact the Transportation Department directly at (352) 955-7602 or trnroutingandplanning@alachuaschools.net.
· Students who attend Newberry High School are no longer automatically eligible for the free breakfast/lunch program through the USDA. In order for your child to qualify for the free or reduced meal plan at Newberry High School, you must complete a meal application EACH YEAR. Additional information about the qualification requirements and the application process (as well as the online application) can be found at https://www.yourchoicefresh.com/meal-apps/.
· Student who plan to participate in a sport at NHS must complete the REQUIRED Online FHSAA Clearance. Visit https://athleticclearance.fhsaahome.org/ for more information.
· Please make sure that your contact information in Skyward is up to date and accurate so that you can stay informed about the happenings at Newberry High School. All messages sent to you from NHS via phone, text, and email are generated from the contact information in Skyward.
· It is important for you to maintain Skyward Family Access as this will give you direct access to your child's grades, attendance, behavior, as well as grading reports. If you have any questions or problems accessing Skyward Family Access, please contact Mrs. Dampier in the NHS Guidance Office for assistance.
· Additionally, we recommend you familiarize yourself with the Newberry High School website (https://www.alachuaschools.net/o/newberry-high) and follow our Facebook page (“Newberry High School" - https://www.facebook.com/Newberry-High-School-925607687827169) for additional information posted there relating to upcoming events as well as information which you may find helpful.
