The first day of school is TOMORROW! Please review the information below to ensure a smooth start to the school year.
School begins on Monday, August 11th. The campus is open at 7:15 am and the instructional day begins at 7:45 am. Please ensure that your child is in class by 7:45 am.
Parents may walk your child(ren) to class on Monday and Tuesday of this week ONLY. Beginning on Wednesday, 8/13, all students will say their 'goodbyes' at the door of the main entrance for each building.

Kindergarten Families ONLY: Irby does a staggered start for Kindergarten students ONLY.
On Monday, students with their last name beginning with A-M attend. They then remain home on Tuesday, and everyone returns on Wednesday.
On Monday, students with their last name beginning with N-Z remain at home. They then attend on Tuesday and everyone returns on Wednesday.
We understand that there may be circumstances which may make it difficult for a child to participate in the staggered start. If this is the case, students can attend both Monday and Tuesday.
The instructional day ends at 1:52 pm, with the exception of weekly early release Wednesdays, when dismissal is at 12:37 pm.
Transportation: Please check Skyward Family Access for information on your student’s bus. You can also look up bus stops and reach out to their department with questions at https://www.sbac.edu/transportation
Breakfast and lunch are free to all students; no application is required. Breakfast is served from 7:15 am to 7:35 am. If you would like for your child to eat breakfast on campus, please allow enough time for your child to eat and be in class on time. If you would like to check out the menu, please visit: https://www.yourchoicefresh.com/menus/
Irby has an incredible PTA and we would love for you to be a part of it! You can find out more information, including how to join at: https://irbyelementry.memberhub.com/store/items/31746

Dismissal
At the conclusion of each instructional day, students will be escorted by a staff member to their applicable dismissal area on campus.

Car Riders: All automobile traffic must use the car area in front of Building 1. Cars should not line up for dismissal until 30 minutes before dismissal.
Single-lane traffic only is permitted in the car pick-up area. All cars should have a sign with their child’s name on it issued from the front office. Please hang the sign from your rear view mirror with your child’s name facing outward. If you do not have a sign, please stop by our main office to receive one. Without a sign, a picture ID must be presented in order for a child to be released
Cars will be directed to pull forward to a given number to receive their child. Students waiting to be picked up will remain inside the building until called to exit the building. Students will then load from their appropriate number with the assistance of a staff member. We ask that you remain in your car during this time and pull all the way forward to your corresponding number. Cars are not permitted to pick up students from the bus circle during dismissal times.
We are looking forward to a wonderful year!
Warm Regards,

Hello Irby families!
We are so excited to introduce ourselves as the new principal and assistant principal of Irby Elementary. This school has such a warm, welcoming reputation, and it’s clear why. From the joyful classrooms to the smiling faces in the hallways, Irby is truly a special place for our young students.

We already feel a strong connection to this community. For the past three years, we worked just up the road at Alachua Elementary and quickly came to love and respect the families and spirit of this town. Being part of a school that means so much to Alachua is something we don’t take lightly.

We also want to give a big shoutout to the incredible teachers and staff at Irby. They’ve created such a positive, nurturing environment for their students, and we’re honored to join their team.

This year, we’ll be focusing on helping students grow by building a strong school culture and giving them more ownership of their learning. When kids feel confident and excited about school, there’s no limit to what they can achieve. Meet the teacher will be this Friday on August 8th, 2025 at 12:30 p.m. More information about that, first day of school information, and supply information should be posted later today.

We can’t wait to meet all of you and your children. Here’s to a great year ahead!

Warm Regards,
Holly Burton and Seth Harrington
