I News October
Important Reminders for Irby Parents:

The flu mist clinic will be here on October 6th. Please see the following links to view flu mist information and the consent form.

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1IZh0FN3lHuI155Js23J3OY9WS2jzkY4K/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=116394692838336073285&rtpof=true&sd=true

Also, final dismissal changes and student check outs must be made by 1:15 PM (12:00 PM on Wednesdays). Student safety is our first priority, and dismissing each Irby Eagle correctly is something we take very seriously. In order to perform this task with the highest degree of accuracy, we must allow sufficient time to deliver changes to teachers prior to the start of our dismissal routine each day.

Parents/guardians/designees picking up students through the car pick up line MUST have an Irby Elementary parent pick-up tag that includes the student's name & grade for security and efficiency. Cars entering the carline without a parent pick-up tag will be asked to park and head to the parent walk up door to present a photo ID for verification before student(s) will be released.

Talk about INSTRUCTIONAL EMPOWERMENT!!

Ms. Brady's Pre-K kiddos are planting in the garden today! Students worked together to help loosen the soil, pull out weeds and roots, and dig holes. Then they picked out what they wanted to plant. They put in lettuce, kale, broccoli, marigold and sunflower starts. Then they planted carrot and radish seeds. Now it's time to water! We can't wait to eat all this good food in our school lunches!

A huge thank you to Ms. Brady's class for making Irby Elementary even more amazing. These Pre-K kids show us that when we work together, beautiful things bloom. At our school, teamwork starts early, and just like our garden, it keeps GROWING!

Dear Families,

We are beginning our first FAST progress monitoring window. There will be three Progress Monitoring (PM) windows for FAST this year:

∙ September - PM1 – provides information at the beginning of the year so teachers can plan for instruction and support.
∙ December/January - PM2 –provides a mid-year score to track student progress.
∙ May - PM3 –measures student mastery of the standards at the end of the school year.

Each progress monitoring test (PM1, PM2 and PM3) assesses what students should know by the end of the school year for each subject and grade level. As a result, a student’s scores for PM1 and PM2 may not yet be at grade level. This does not necessarily mean that a student is not on track to succeed. The results of PM3, the final testing session of the school year, will measure whether a student has mastered grade level standards for the year.

Tentative fast schedule is as follows:

Kindergarten (KG)
ELA → Monday 9/15, Tuesday 9/16
Math → Thursday 9/18, Friday 9/19

1st Grade
ELA → Thursday 9/11, Friday 9/12
Math → Tuesday 9/16, Wednesday 9/17

2nd Grade
Math → Wednesday 9/10, Thursday 9/11
ELA → Thursday 9/18, Friday 9/19

Thank you to the team from UF Health that provided Stop the Bleed training for principals today. As with our recent training on reunifying families after a school crisis, today's session is another example of the district's commitment to the safety and well-being of students, families and staff.

Hello Irby families!
We are so excited to introduce ourselves as the new principal and assistant principal of Irby Elementary. This school has such a warm, welcoming reputation, and it’s clear why. From the joyful classrooms to the smiling faces in the hallways, Irby is truly a special place for our young students.

We already feel a strong connection to this community. For the past three years, we worked just up the road at Alachua Elementary and quickly came to love and respect the families and spirit of this town. Being part of a school that means so much to Alachua is something we don’t take lightly.

We also want to give a big shoutout to the incredible teachers and staff at Irby. They’ve created such a positive, nurturing environment for their students, and we’re honored to join their team.

This year, we’ll be focusing on helping students grow by building a strong school culture and giving them more ownership of their learning. When kids feel confident and excited about school, there’s no limit to what they can achieve. Meet the teacher will be this Friday on August 8th, 2025 at 12:30 p.m. More information about that, first day of school information, and supply information should be posted later today.

We can’t wait to meet all of you and your children. Here’s to a great year ahead!

Warm Regards,
Holly Burton and Seth Harrington
