✨ Mental Health Tip of the Month for Parents: Ways to support Conflict Resolution ✨
Managing conflict can affect the body—causing increased heart rate, shallow breathing, muscle tension, sweating, and digestive issues. When conflict goes unresolved, it can contribute to anxiety and lowered immunity over time.
Conflict resolution is an important life skill for our kids. As we guide them toward becoming responsible adults, we must remind them that conflict is normal. Disagreements are part of healthy human relationships. It’s not the conflict itself that causes the most harm—it’s how we handle it. Arguments and fights, verbal or physical, often grow out of not knowing how to move through conflict in a healthy way.
Some teenage relationships may not last, but even short ones shape how our children grow. If kids think they must agree in order to resolve conflict, they may avoid situations where agreement feels unlikely. But resolution does not mean agreement. If we wait until we “feel like” agreeing, we leave conflicts open.
Let’s encourage our children to see conflict resolution as moving forward in a way that harms no one and protects their character and reputation—even when they disagree.
Tips for Guardians
1. Check in regularly.
Create consistent moments to talk—on the ride home, after the bus, at dinner, or before bed. Your teen may not engage at first, but stay consistent. Over time, they may come to depend on it. When sharing about their day becomes routine, it’s easier to talk about conflict.
Try simple starters:

“Is anything upsetting you?”
“Do you want to talk about anything and have me just listen?”

Help your child build a relationship with a safe adult—such as a counselor, church member, or trusted family friend—who understands your values around healthy conflict resolution. Another steady voice can reinforce good decision-making and alert you if concerns arise.
When children understand that conflict is normal—and that resolution is possible without agreement—they are more likely to make responsible choices and seek support before relationships or reputations are damaged.

Graduation rates for the seven ACPS high schools rose in 2025, from 92.7% to 93.9%. All seven schools posted rates above 90%.

We’ve been made aware of a very convincing scam targeting families of students who take the PSAT, SAT, or AP exams.
📞 How the scam works:
You receive an unsolicited phone call from someone claiming to be from the College Board (or another educational organization).
The caller says they’re just “confirming your address” to send test prep materials your child supposedly requested at school (books, CDs, videos, flash drives, etc.).
⚠️ Why it seems believable:
The caller may already know your child’s name, school, test date/location, phone number, and home address.
They sound professional and informed, which lowers your guard.
💳 The red flag:
They say the materials must be returned within 30 days or you’ll be charged $249.
They ask for a credit card to keep on file in order to send the materials.
❌ This is a scam.
The College Board does NOT call families to send unsolicited test prep materials.
They do NOT require a credit card for free resources.
✅ What to do:
Do not provide any personal or payment information.
Hang up immediately.
Report the call and warn others.
Please share this post to help protect other families. When in doubt, always contact the organization directly using official contact information.
