Alachua County Public School students can once again receive a free nasal spray vaccine for the flu at school during the school day. The Flu Mist vaccine will be given to students at Newberry High School on Friday (October 24th).
The Alachua County Health Department is offering free FluMist to all eligible students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. Flu Mist is a gentle mist sprayed into the nose, and it’s a safe and effective way to protect your child and your family from the flu.
There is NO COST to you for the vaccine. If your child has health insurance, that information will be collected and the insurance company will be billed, but there will be NO co-pay or deductible for families. Children with no health insurance are also eligible for the free vaccine.
We encourage you to read through the Parent Letter, Vaccine Information Statement and Privacy Notice included on this page (https://www.alachuaschools.net/o/acps/page/flu-immunization-program-information-2025). Then complete the Consent Form and have your child return it to school even if you do not want your child to receive the vaccine.
Please complete the Consent Form and have your child return it to school as soon as possible (even if you do not want your child to receive the vaccine). You can also fax the completed form to (352) 334-7947 or email it to SLIV@flhealth.gov.
For more information, visit controlflu.com or contact the Health Department at (352) 334-7916.

IMPORTANT: A new law passed by the Florida Legislature significantly limits when students may use cell phones or other personal wireless communication devices, such as smartwatches, earbuds, headphones, and tablets. These devices must remain powered off and stored out of sight during instructional time. Students have access to district-approved instructional technology throughout the school day and families who need to reach their child due to an emergency or other safety concern should contact the NHS Front Office directly.

REMINDER: Panthers, don't forget to bring your laptop and charging cord to school EVERY DAY as most of the testing this year will be done on the laptops. (If your laptop has stopped working or has other operational issues, please bring it to the NHS Front Office so we can investigate and diagnose any issues.)
Congratulations to our August 19th Trivia Tuesday WINNERS: Tyler Kallmeyer and Jaydon Brockington! They were randomly chosen from all the correct entries to win a sweet treat for correctly answering the question: Who was the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean? Great job Panthers!
