REMINDER: NHS is a closed campus and students are not permitted to leave campus for lunch. Additionally, students may not have food dropped off or delivered to them at campus. Students are not allowed to bring Polar Cups or “to go” cups to campus. Water bottles are encouraged and we have several bottle filling stations around campus.
Are you interested in earning some volunteer hours? Stop by and see Mrs. Spina to sign up to volunteer at the Lion's Club Rodeo this weekend (Friday, October 24th, and Saturday, October 25th). There are limited spaces, so be sure to sign up as soon as possible. By volunteering you will also receive free entry to the Rodeo and a food voucher.
Panthers, tardy sweeps have begun! If you are not in class when the bell rings, you will be required to serve one day of lunch detention. Our Lady Panthers Varsity Volleyball team will be playing in the District Championship game AT HOME vs. the Keystone Heights Lady Indians tonight at 6:30 pm. The cost for tickets is $8.00 per person and the State Series Pass is the only valid pass accepted for entry. REMINDER: Panthers, don't forget to bring your laptop and charging cord to school EVERY DAY as most of the testing this year will be done on the laptops. Additionally, these laptops provide important access to digital textbooks and assist students in transitioning between classwork, testing, and homework. Donors must be 16 or older, weigh at least 110 lbs., and show a photo ID in order to donate. Any 16-year old student who wishes to donate blood must have written parental consent. REMINDER: A new law passed by the Florida Legislature significantly limits when students may use cell phones or other personal wireless communication devices, such as smartwatches, earbuds, headphones, and tablets. These devices must remain powered off and stored out of sight during instructional time. Students have access to district-approved instructional technology throughout the school day and families who need to reach their child due to an emergency or other safety concern should contact the NHS Front Office directly.
Beginning today, our National Honor Society has started "Change Wars" in order to raise money for the Children's Miracle Network. All money raised will go to Newberry High School's fundraising total and Shands Children's Hospital where it will be used to help children undergoing medical treatment. Change will be collected through Thursday (October 16th) and the homeroom class who collects the most change will have donuts delivered to your classroom! Dig deep, Panthers!!
After school CROP sessions for students who are credit deficient for graduation will continue this week after school (Monday through Thursday) in Computer Lab 2 from 3:15 pm until 6:15 pm. Please note we are not able to offer CROP sessions during the school day this year, so this will be the opportunity to earn replacement grades for credit deficiencies until we offer after school CROP sessions in spring, 2026 (dates to be determined). Tryouts for both the boys’ soccer team and the girls’ soccer team will be held after school from Monday (October 13th) through Wednesday (October 15th) from 3:30 pm until 5:30 pm at the Easton Sports Complex. Participation in all tryout days are mandatory and you must have completed the online athletic clearance with the FHSAA. You must have shinguards to participate in the tryouts.
There will be a blood drive in partnership with LifeSouth Community Blood Center on Wednesday (October 15th) in the NHS Auditorium. Donors must be 16 or older, weigh at least 110 lbs., and show a photo ID in order to donate. Any 16-year old student who wishes to donate blood must have written parental consent. Additionally, these laptops provide important access to digital textbooks and assist students in transitioning between classwork, testing, and homework. Fall Driver Education
Alachua County Public Schools is offering two options this fall:
🔹 Behind-the-Wheel Lab Only – for students who have already completed a Driver Education classroom course.
🔹 Classroom + Lab – for students who have not yet taken a Driver Education course (earn .5 credit).
Requirements:
✔ Must be 15 or older
✔ Must have a Learner’s Permit (for Lab Only option)
📅 Classes begin this fall
💲 Fees: $200 (Lab Only) | $250 (Classroom + Lab)
